Teacher Leadership Certificate

The online Certificate in Teacher Leadership is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for teachers to excel in leadership roles. This certification program, consisting of four courses and equips experienced educators to take on various leadership positions, such as instructional coaching, grade level or department leads, and professional development facilitation. Through this program, teachers will gain the ability to mentor and coach peers, lead professional learning initiatives, align curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and collaborate with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and enhance student learning outcomes.

Candidates will complete four courses with a focus in instructional leadership (EDLA 6615), adult learning theories to better support other professional educators (OLP 6621), advancing pedagogical and content knowledge (EDUC 6614) and creating or supporting professional learning communities (EDUC 6618).

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply leadership models and frameworks to enhance collaboration, build capacity, promote equity, and drive shared decision-making to empower teachers and influence the adoption and/or development of high-leverage teaching practices.
  2. Develop advanced skills in curriculum design, instructional strategies, assessments, reflective practice, and designing professional learning to become an instructional leader.
  3. Understand how to lead school transformation efforts by implementing a strategic vision for school improvement, aligning resources and planning long-term goals to enhance learning outcomes.

Admissions Requirements

  1. Documentation of at least one year of teaching experience as the teacher of record or a full year of long-term substitute teaching acting as the teacher of record.
  2. Submit a resume or professional vitae. The resume must clearly show the mandatory teaching experience stated above.
