Course Learning Outcomes are measurable statements that are used to identify the specific knowledge and skills that a student should have at the end of a course.

ART 1101
L1- Students will gain an understanding of the history of art and architecture from prehistory to about 1400. 
L2- Students will develop their ability to formally and theoretically analyze works of art using correct terminology. 
L3- Students will develop their ability to effectively communicate in writing and speaking. 

ART 1102
L1- Gain an understanding of the history of art and architecture from 1400 to about 1750.
L2- Develop their ability to formally and theoretically analyze works of art using correct terminology. 
L3- Develop their ability to effectively communicate in writing and speaking.

ART 1103
L1- To develop an understanding of two-dimensional design concepts and theory: specifically, the elements, principles and components of design.
L2- To develop and demonstrate skills in a variety of two-dimensional media and expand knowledge of color theory and color mixing. 
L3- To develop the ability to conceptualize, verbalize and visually communicate ideas and develop independent, creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

ART 1104
L1- To develop an understanding of the elements and principles of three-dimensional design.
L2- To develop the ability to create three dimensional forms in a variety of media, and expand visual problem-solving skills.
L3- To develop the ability to analyze visual art and clearly communicate about artwork, both their own and other’s.

ART 1105
L1- At the end of this course students gain: Proficiency in the basic concepts, materials and techniques of drawing.
L2- Advanced usage of drawing as a preparatory activity, as a formal medium and observational practice. L3- Exposure to a wide variety of artists, history and context in the field of drawing.
L4- Strength and confidence in their own visual reasoning, with deepened critical looking skills and a broader understanding of the motivations behind their own work.

ART 1106
L1- Describe, analyze and interpret created artwork through form, content and context. 
L2-Understand theoretical debates and artistic practices within the discipline of contemporary art practice, references and discourses while also having a sense of historical contexts.
L3- Demonstrate mastery of materials, tools, and processes in one or multiple mediums.
L4- Articulate, reflect on and utilize critical thinking while presenting, creating and exploring work.

ART 3308
L1- Students will use a variety of image making software and image capturing tools to make artworks.  L2- Students will use the formal elements and principles of two-dimensional design including line, shape, implied volume, light and shade, texture and color to make art projects through digital means. Students will use terminology needed to discuss various types, techniques and concepts of digital art and put this vocabulary into a historical context.
L3- Students will plan a path utilizing problem-solving steps, including stating initial intentions, defining and analyzing the problem and clarifying the main issues and evaluating the success of the work.

ART 3310
L1- Students will learn how to organize and install a group or solo exhibition of recent artwork.
L2- Students will develop professional materials (including an artist’s statement, resume, professional images, press releases, grant applications, etc.)
L3- Students will learn about the theoretical and practical aspects of succeeding as a practicing artist. 

ART 3320
L1- Artwork is submitted for a portfolio review at midterm based on the content and principles learned in studio and foundation core classes.

ART 4410
L1- Students will engage in installation art and non-traditional art making practices.  By definition, these approaches collapses media boundaries and discipline boundaries, as such, students will be encouraged and taught new ways of thinking about presentation and invention.
L2- Students will design and fabricate “site-specific” artworks that respond to specific locations that may not be traditional venues for exhibiting artwork.
L3- Students will consider an artwork’s relationship to its context and understand how context significantly affects the meaning of a piece.
L4- Students will discuss the relevance of course readings on critical theory and lectures to the student’s own artistic concerns and trajectory.

ART 4425
L1- Gain an understanding of the history and theories of art from 1960-Present.
L2- Develop their ability to formally and theoretically analyze works of art.
L3- Develop their ability to gather and synthesize art historical research.

ART 4494
L1- Students will curate, plan and exhibit a focused, developed and thematic representation of artwork for the undergraduate thesis exhibition.
L2- Students will write an artist's statement, which communicates their artistic development and what they hope to achieve in their artistic work.
L3- Students will present an oral defense of their senior exhibition.
