M.Ed.in Literacy
Admission Requirements
The student must apply to and meet all criteria for admission to the Graduate School. In addition, candidates for the Master of Education in Literacy must meet all college requirements for admission and retention. Individuals applying for admission to the Master of Education with Literacy Emphasis must meet the following admission requirements:
• Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited in the United States or its equivalent from a school in another country
• Grade point average of 3.0 or higher for all upper division credits taken at the undergraduate level
• Current K-12 teaching certificate/credential
• Letter of intent
General Requirements
Candidates must complete a minimum of 30 semester credit hours for the Master of Education in Literacy. The Master of Education in Literacy coursework is completed fully online (asynchronous/synchronous), with some in-school fieldwork required, including the capstone case study. Currently practicing teachers can complete the field requirements at their schools.
As a prerequisite, candidates must have passed the Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Assessments or Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Course (or similar from another state). All candidates will complete and orally defend a case study or thesis, but will not sit for written comprehensive examinations.
Candidates pursuing the Master of Education in Literacy must hold a valid teaching certificate. Candidates with Idaho teacher certification seeking an Idaho K-3 Literacy endorsement must meet the requirements of the State Board of Education.
